May 1st: National Coalition of 100 Black Women-Central Alabama Chapter – Voter Education Forum, to be held from5:30pm – 7:30pm at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Birmingham, AL. Program Moderator: Carthenia Jefferson, ALA President; Panelists Moderator: LaBarron Boone, ALA Judicial Selection Committee Chairman, and Past President. The event will be streamed live. May 16th: Deadline for the ALA Nomination and Election Form. See attachment.
May 29th – June 1st: ALA Annual Meeting & Retreat will be held at the beautiful Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Sandestin, Florida. Registration is open online. The deadline for regular registration and for the ALA housing accommodation rate is April 29th. Because another large event is occurring the same weekend, housing is filling up quickly. I urge you to make your housing reservations now. Visit the ALA website at www.ala-lawyers.org to download a copy of the Annual Meeting & Retreat brochure for more information and to register online and make housing reservations.
The Hall of Fame Induction and Necrology Ceremonies will occur during the Hall of Fame Dinner & Gala at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Sandestin, Florida on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. We request your participation and sponsorship of the event. The Hall of Fame event honors lawyers from the State of Alabama who have practiced for more than twenty five years and have made significant contributions to the cause of justice.
The 2014 Hall of Fame Honorees are: Honorable J. Richmond Pearson, Julian Mason Davis Jr., and the late J. L. Chestnut Jr., Vernon Z. Crawford and Honorable Michael A. Figures.
A souvenir booklet will be developed to showcase the Hall of Fame inductees and allow law firms, businesses, and individuals to congratulate the recipients and/or advertise. The deadline to be included in the booklet is April 25, 2014. Funds must be received by April 25, 2014. Please contact the President at president@ala-lawyers.org if you need an extension of the deadline.
We use sponsorship monies to help with law student programs and to grant stipends and/or scholarships to deserving law students to assist them in pursuing their careers.
