Recognizing that certain segments of the population have historically been unrepresented or underrepresented in the legal arena, and recognizing that justice is a blind concept, yet sometimes unjustly administered, the Alabama Lawyers Association (formerly known as the Alabama Black Lawyers Association) was organized in 1971.
The purpose of the Alabama Lawyers Association is to encourage the study of law, to provide comprehensive support services and valuable networking opportunities for its members to enhance their effectiveness as legal counsel, and to actively protect the civil and political rights of all citizens.
There are over 1715+ plus African American attorneys in Alabama. There is power in numbers. If you are not a member of ALA, we challenge you to support ALA by becoming a member and completing and returning the membership application. ALA exists to enhance the integrity of the legal profession, to improve the quality of legal services provided to the public and to protect the civil rights of the citizens of the State of Alabama.
It is with great honor and privilege that I address you as the 53 rd President of the
Alabama Lawyers Association (ALA).
Justice is not just an ideal that we strive for, it is a commitment we uphold daily, for all of
us, always. Our nation’s civil rights journey reminds us of the generations who marched,
spoke out, and stood firm so that equality could move from aspiration to action. In every
decision, every interaction, and every moment of service, we stand firm in the belief that
fairness is a right, not a privilege. Yet even today, continued strides are needed to
ensure fairness, dignity, and opportunity for every person in every community.
Frederick Douglass once said, “Power concedes nothing without a demand.” His words
remind us that progress requires courage, persistence, and the unwavering belief that
justice must reach every corner of our society.
Rooted in legacy to rise in leadership, we honor the path paved before us while lifting
our communities toward a stronger, more equitable future. As we reflect on the courage
and convictions of those who came before us, we reaffirm our responsibility to carry that
work forward.
The Alabama Lawyers Association was founded to support historically unrepresented or

Alabamians. This mission guides us now in our pursuit of justice.
Together, we remain rooted to rise—grounded in purpose, united in justice, and
determined to lead with integrity for generations to come.
The moment to act is now! Justice is now! Equality is now! Progress cannot be
postponed. We must raise our voices, strengthen our resolve, and move with urgency
toward a future where fairness is not promised, it’s guaranteed. Let us stand up, step
forward, and do the work that our legacy and our organization demand.
