Jennifer A. Hansen
Jennifer Hansen is a partner at the San Diego Office of Hooper, Lundy & Bookman. Her practice includes representation of hospitals, medical staffs, nursing homes, physicians, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers and suppliers in a wide range of matters, including general litigation, medical staff law, managed care litigation, physician licensing, reimbursement, regulatory, and long term care issues.
Ms. Hansen earned her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with honors, and her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School.
Ms. Hansen has served as counsel in multiple medical staff hearings and has defended physicians in numerous administrative hearings before the Medical Board of California. She has represented hospitals, long term care facilities and adult residential facilities in challenges to citations and deficiencies issued by the Department of Public Health and the Department of Social Services. Ms. Hansen has arbitrated and resolved a variety of cases for healthcare providers in dealings with health plans and insurance companies.
In 2010, Ms. Hansen was recognized by the San Diego Daily Transcript as one of San Diego’s outstanding young attorneys.
In addition to her health care practice, Ms. Hansen is firmly committed to community service. In 2009-2010, she received the California State Bar Association’s Wiley W. Manuel Award and Legal Aid Society of San Diego’s Outstanding Service Award.
Rena Jenkins

E. Rena Jenkins
Elverine (Rena) Jenkins joined Gallagher Benefit Services, Inc. in July, 2013. She is a Chicago native and received a BA in Mathematics from DePaul University in 1999. Upon graduation, she worked for 3 large consulting firms as an actuarial benefits analyst until she attended law school in 2003.
Rena relocated to Houston one year prior to attending law school. She received a J.D. from Thurgood Marshall School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 2007. She has past experience as ERISA attorney, specializing in qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs) in-house at a Houston-based actuarial consulting firm where she worked for 6 years prior to joining Gallagher. She recently received an LL.M. in Employee Benefits from The John Marshall Law School-Chicago in 2012. In her role as Area Assistant Vice President, Compliance Counsel, Rena is responsible for assisting clients with group health plan compliance questions related to ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, Internal Revenue Code Section 125, and Healthcare Reform.
Her notable accomplishments include two article publications in law journals: “Only the Head Strong Survive: The Tragic course of Head Injury Claims Under the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle NFL Player Retirement Plan” appears in Volume 63 Book 3 of the Syracuse Law Review, Spring 2013; and “Shared Interest QDROs: Do These QDROs Provide Fair Treatment to Alternate Payees?” appears in Volume 44, number 1, of the Family Law Review (Spring 2012), a publication of the Family Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.
Rena has been a speaker at CLE training courses for Houston organizations including, the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, the Houston Lawyers Association, Thurgood Marshall School of Law, and South Texas College of Law. She is a board member of the Houston Lawyers Association and a member of the executive planning committee for the 2014 Southeast/Southwest People of Color Legal Scholarship Conference. She is also an active member of the Houston ERISA Attorneys Group, the American Bar Association, and the Houston Young Lawyers Association.
Katrina-A-Pagonis

Katrina A. Pagonis
Katrina Pagonis’ practice focuses on the representation of health care providers in matters relating to health care reform, as well as regulatory compliance more generally. She regularly advises clients related to the Affordable Care Act and Health Insurance Exchanges (also known as Marketplaces), including Covered California and the Federally-Facilitated Exchanges that will be established in 26 states. In this capacity, she provides strategic advise on managed care contracting and counsel on providers’ options to assist in outreach and enrollment activities as Navigators, In-Person Assisters, and/or Certified Application Counselors. Ms. Pagonis’ regulatory work covers issues in fraud and abuse, non-profit law, clinical trial agreements, privacy and licensure. In addition, Ms. Pagonis has appellate litigation experience.
Ms. Pagonis is a former health law professor and left a faculty position in Health Law at Hamline University School of Law to join Hooper, Lundy & Bookman in 2012. She received her B.A. degree in Political Science and Molecular and Cellular Biology (emphasis in biochemistry and molecular biology) from the University of California, Berkeley in 2001. She received her J.D. degree with honors from Georgetown University Law Center while simultaneously earning her M.P.H. from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Ms. Pagonis went on to earn an L.L.M. degree from the Yale Law School, where she was a senior staff member of the Yale Journal of Health Policy, Law and Ethics. After law school, Ms. Pagonis was a judicial law clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada. She also served as a fellow for the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University Law Center. She continues to teach health law on occasion, most recently as an adjunct professor for Health Law 2 at Santa Clara University School of Law.
